Our Aims, Vision and Values

At Litton Church of England Primary School, our distinctive aim underpins everything that we do.

We aim to serve our community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian beliefs and practice. We believe in working together to make sure that our school is a safe, secure, friendly and purposeful place where our children are encouraged, challenged and supported to achieve to the best of their ability.

Our Christian vision is:

1 Corinthians 12v27 All of you are Christ’s body, and each one is a part of it.

Mark 10 v14 ‘…Jesus said let the children come to me, do not stop them because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these…’

Our Christian vision is: we are stronger as a group than individuals and together we are Christ’s presence in the world. Litton School draws together different parts of our wider community to make a place where the children at its heart can flourish, learn and thrive.

Our Christian Values:

generosity

forgiveness

compassion

respect

hope

courage

friendship

trust

curiosity

openness

resilience

Our Context

Litton Church of England Primary School is set in the parish of Tideswell and includes a number of different communities (faith perspectives, social -economic backgrounds, geographical locations, multi-generations) in an inclusive environment where all families are valued. It is part of the Derby Diocese Family of Church Schools.

The stained-glass window is situated in St John’s Parish Church in Tideswell. This artwork represents the aspirations and hopes Jesus had as he blessed the children as inheritors of the kingdom of God.  All the children were included, blessed and enabled to achieve their full potential.

St.Teresa of Avila (1515–1582)

Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks

compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.

Our Christian vision is lived out by recognising the uniqueness of each individual pupil. There is a commitment to developing the whole child; to providing high quality education that enables each individual to achieve their full potential academically and socially. We create a stimulating environment, so that pupils develop self-esteem, confidence in their abilities and pride in their work.

Litton Church of England Primary school has strong links to the church and community organisations which give our pupils a sense of place and the opportunity to take part in shared celebrations. Litton Church is integral to the life of the school where important assemblies/services regularly occur and a weekly toddler group are held to support the local community. The school seeks to promote the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all learners, to relate this to Christian values and to foster a positive atmosphere of mutual respect and trust in which everyone feels safe and can flourish.

The School Council is an active team, democratically voted, supporting pupil voice and modelling good citizenship. We have a very supportive Parents' Association (FOLS), and parents are actively involved in the school on a voluntary basis. This enables parents to be closely engaged with their children's education. We have a flourishing Eco-Council who shows care and respect to our school and the local environment. We carry out a number of charitable events during the year such as supporting Macmillan Coffee morning, The High Peak Food Bank, Waste Not. Want Not Project in Buxton, Derbyshire Air Ambulance, Children in Need and Edale Mountain Rescue. The children understand the purpose behind Global Goals and being a global citizen. The children support the local community through Remembrance Day services on the village green, creating the well-dressing for the Children’s well, performing traditional dances and songs throughout Wakes Week to remember the heritage of the school and village.

We are guided by our Christian Values. These underpin all that we do and are well known to the children as they are our 'School Rules.'
