Our Visit to Eyam.

As one of our KS2 History topic, we were learning about the the great plague in London and how it affected the village of Eyam in 1665. We visited the village on a very damp Friday. We had first hand experience of the key historical places around the village and tried to understand what it must have been like to live there during that period of time.

KS2 Viking Day

We had a great day learning about how to be a Viking. The History Van came for the day and transported the children back to the Viking era.

The children had the opportunity to  take port in an archaeological dig finding out what types of materials were preserved in the soil and what it tell us about the lives of the people who once used them. They also became museum curators, creating a display explaining their finds.

They created their own Viking Sword complete with runes, and use quill pens to write the complaints of the Anglo Saxons. The children relived the lives of the Viking invaders and re-enacting their daily routines and traditions – how they dressed, made their homes, played, worked and fought.

Thank you to Kathryn and the History Van for an immersive and interesting experience.

Our Visit to Conisbrough Castle

We had a fantastic day at Conisbrough Castle.

In KS1, we have been finding out about castle life and naming different features of a castle during our history lessons. By visiting Conisbrough Castle, this visit gave the children first hand experiences of what it meant to live in a castle. The children attended some workshops 'meeting the Medievals' and Tales of the Keep' to find out more informtion. They were amazed by the size and scale of the Keep and they enjoyed looking at the views from the top.
