Eco - Council

Welcome to our Eco-Council Page

Litton School Eco-Council

Our Eco-council meets once a fortnight in the school hall. We discuss and plan activities linked the Global Goals and relating them to our local community. During the Summer term, our focus was Bio-diversity and the impact of our actions on the local environment.

This term, we are focusing on hedgehogs and how we can care for them. We have chosen to raise money for Ashford's Aninal Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre who care for rescued and sick hedgehogs.

Vinnie the Hedgehog

We have our first hedgehog resident in the school woods. Vinnie the hedgehog was nursed back to the health after being found with an injury. The Eco-Council released him into the woods and introduced him into one of our newly built hedgehog homes. We hope he has a good winter hiberating in his new house.

Compassion - Our Hedgehog Assembly

Thank you to Kirsty from the Ashford Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre for coming to talk to us in assembly about their work. It was lovely to meet Bambi the hedgehog and find out about how much she has grown since arriving at the centre. We learnt some interesting facts about hedgehogs.

Village Voice Article

Thank you to Andrea Mitson for writing the article for the Village Voice and her ongoing support to the Eco-Council.

Tideswell and District Environmental Group (TDEG)

The Tideswell and District Environmental Group have been working with the Year 5 /Year 6 children thinking about climate change and the effects it has on our local environment. They have completed activities linked to recycling, food waste, single use plastics and wildlife.

The children then planned some eco-projects in small groups in an environmental area of their choosing, such as setting up an owl box in the family barn, litter-picking, building a bug hotel and planting apples trees for the community.

Litton Eco-Council Litter Pick

The litter pick at the park was a great success! The children were great and they all enjoyed their first Eco-council activity.

Global Goals

As part of the KS2 topic, Protecting the Planet, the children have been finding out about what are Global Goals and how do they impact on our daily lives. We have focused on three areas: No.6 Clean Water and Sanitation, No.13 Climate Action and No.15 Life on Land. They have carried out a research project to find out more about these areas.
