Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Well done to everyone who returned their paper plates. Some amazing entries.
We had a great day dressing up as our favourite characters, buddy reading and showing our paper plates.
We had a great time on our last day. We started the day with gem-panning. Then we carried out a river study by measuring the flow, depth and width of the river. This was great opportunity to stand in the river. Then we went river dipping to find out what living things can be found in the river. After a well deserved lunch, we had a fun time collecting logs for den building. Everyone had an enjoyable time on our residential and went home very tired. Congratulations to all the children for their impeccable behaviour and making it such a fun and happy experience.
We had a very busy day. We started the day by map reading and using grid references. Then we went out for a hike to Mam Tor using our map reading skills and compasses. We had a picnic near to Odin’s mine. Everyone loved the mud chute!!!
We had a good first day at Losehill. The children enjoyed the Treak Cliff Cavern visit, especially the part that looked like cream cheese. The children carried out a village study around Castletown before making candles in the evening. We are very proud to have had some many positive comments about the childrens’ excellent listening and behaviour.
As part of our topic in Red Group ‘I Want To Be…’ the Police came to visit the children in school. Bill and Joel (the Police) talked to the children about their jobs, we tried on some uniform and they showed us some of their kit for their work. Thank you for visiting us.
The School Council organised their second school disco in the village hall. It was great fun and we have some fantastic dancers in our school!
Wider Opportunities with the Derbyshire Music Hub
We have been participating in the wider opportunities programme with DCC. All of our KS2 children have had the opportunity to learn to play the Clarinet. After just 15 weeks of lessons, the children were ready to perform in their first concert for parents in our school hall.
Juniors have been to visit The National Space Centre this week in Leicester. We had a great day exploring the history of space travel, holding real meteorites and travelling through space in the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium. We even got to see the Blue Streak and Thor Able rockets up close! It was a great day out full of learning for everyone!
Sarah Dines MP came to visit us in school to hand out prizes after all the children entered her Christmas Card competition in November. Daisy was one of the runner-up children whose picture was printed on the back of Sarah Dines' Christmas card.
We performed some poetry for Sarah and she spoke to the children about what it was like to be an MP. Afterwards, some of our Junior children gave Sarah a tour of the school and then she answered questions lead by the School Council. The children had an informative morning and we found out some interesting facts about being a MP.
