Snow Day 7th January 2025

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas with your family. I'm really looking forward to seeing you all as soon as the snow and ice melts!

Reading

Our new class book will be 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes. Can you look at the front cover of the book and then answer the prediction questions. Remember in Year 3 and 4 we must start adding evidence to support our ideas.

English

In English this week, we are going to be performing a volcano poem to the Year 5 and 6. Can you start learning our poem and adding actions to it? Remember to think carefully about your tone, expression and volume! I can't wait to see what you have created!

Maths

In maths this half term, we will be carrying on learning our formal methods for the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). We learnt our column methods for addition and subtraction last term so see if you can answer these questions to practise these skills.

If you need to remind yourself of the methods, I've put the links for the videos here. Addition - https://vimeo.com/462718069 (Skip to 32 seconds).

Subtraction- https://vimeo.com/462718069 (Skip to 3:09 to revisit the method).

Top tips:

- Start from the ones column.

-In addition, if the answer is over 9, carry it to the next column and exchange it.

-In subtraction, if you are unable to subtract a number, exchange from the next column along.

-Use a ruler to draw your lines and line up your numbers carefully!

You can also practise your times tables on TT Rockstars and Hit The Button.

Have a lovely day and stay safe in the snow!
