The purpose was to remember the meaning behind Advent and Christingle. All the children made a Christingle from an orange. The Year 6 children stood at the front of the church holding their lit Christingles, pausing for a time of reflection during this busy time of year.

We met many authors and illustrators who had been short-listed for an award. They talked about where they found their inspiration and how important it is to love reading. They signed our copies of the short-listed books and recorded messages for the younger children in school.

We had lunch in the Winter Gardens, and then we visited the Millennium Gallery. We enjoyed looking at the metal and silverware on display as we had learnt about the significance of these items from our previous topic.

Please join us on Monday 23rd June, Tuesday 24th June and Wednesday 25th June at 11.00am and/or 1.30pm to watch the children perform dances and sing in front of the school.

During Collective Worship, we explored the love of reading and how authors bring stories to life. The children shared stories with their buddies in Buddy reading. 

The Story Character toilet roll competition had a large number of entries which were so creative and imaginative. It was very difficult for our Governor judge to choose a winner and runner-up for each class. Well done to everyone who entered!

We paddled around the reservoir before playing some games in the kayaks. Afterwards anyone who wanted to go for a paddle or a swim in the water could run into the water with all their clothing and life aids. It was so cold!

Both children and adults have had a fantastic few days at Whitehall and we have returned back to school very tired but with loads of happy memories.

Thankfully the sun was shining on us. We had a fun day rock scrambling on the Roaches. The views were amazing from the top. We also went on the Leap of Faith, the rope course and the climbing wall.  In the evening we played Secret Agents with our torches in the dark trying to find the adults. Some of them were impossible to find!

We had lots of fun running around the grounds playing a Dinosaur orientation game collecting different stamps. Then we went split into groups and some children went on the zip-wire and others went on the climbing wall - they were all very brave! We had a fun evening finding different creatures in the dark using our torches. Just before bedtime we had hot chocolate and biscuits!

Children from all classes and parents entered our bake off competition in the categories of best tasting cakes and the best decorated cakes and cupcakes.

All the cakes will be sold on Saturday in the village hall when FOLS create a the Litton tea room to raise money for the school.

Everyone had an enjoyable time on our residential and went home very tired. Congratulations to all the children for their impeccable behaviour and making it such a fun and happy experience.
