Computing @ Litton Primary

Intent
At Litton Primary, we value Computing and hope that by the end of year 6 all our children can connect with others responsibly and become competent, confident, and creative users of information and communication technology. In our world, technology will play a pivotal role in the lives of our pupils, therefore we must ensure our curriculum prepares them positively and responsibly for their future in a technical world. We offer all our children the opportunity to experience computing across the curriculum which provides opportunities to apply knowledge and skills in a range of contexts. Children will participate effectively and safely in our digital world within a safe environment.

Implementation
Following the National Curriculum and EYFS Statutory Framework, our computing curriculum is designed to ensure that all of children are successful during their primary school studies. EYFS plan for the characteristics of effective learning and understanding our world. The computing curriculum for Years 1-6 is split into four main strands ensuring that the children build on previous knowledge within each strand.
 Creating media (which includes Music, painting, photography, animation, audio, web creation and writing)
 Systems and networks
 Programming
 Data and Information
Following the National Centre Computing Excellence (NCCE) scheme of work ensures our children can build on prior leaning. Computing is taught weekly on a two-year cycle within mixed year groups. This ensures our children are competent with the knowledge, skills and vocabulary. Throughout all strands, children will be taught how to stay safe online. Through teaching this curriculum, we hope to create well-rounded children that are conscientious digital citizens and are prepared for life in this rapidly developing and changing technological world.

Impact
Here at Litton Primary, all our pupils can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including logic, algorithms, and data representation. We are proud that our pupils can articulate learning using the appropriate vocabulary. It is important that pupils are able to not only keep themselves safe online, but share this knowledge with others. Our pupils demonstrate a good knowledge of technology and comprehensively use this in everyday life. The children of Litton Primary are responsible, competent, confident, and creative users of information and communication technology.

Online safety at Litton
We follow ‘Project Evolve’ which is an online-safety Curriculum taught in 8 Strands
 Self image
 Online relationships
 Online reputation
 Online bullying
 Managing information
 Health and wellbeing
 Privacy and security
 Ownership
The philosophy behind the project is that the messages will evolve over time and ensure there are opportunities to reflect on learning. The toolkit is based on UKCIS (UK Council for Internet Safety) framework Education for a Connected World (EFACW) that covers knowledge, skills, behaviours and attitudes across eight strands of our online lives. These outcomes or skills are mapped to age and progressive. The creators wanted to ensure there would be regular discussion to shape thinking and challenge misconceptions.
